The Observation Service SO HYBAM (formerly Environmental Research Observatory) "Geodynamical, hydrological and biogeochemical control of erosion/alteration and material transport in the Amazon, Orinoco and Congo basins" operates since 2003, answering an invitation to bid from the French Ministry of Higher education and Research. The aim of the SOs is to provide the research community with the high quality scientific data needed to understand and model the systems behavior and their long-term dynamics.


Proposed by a research team of the LMTG (Laboratoire des Mécanismes de Transferts en Géologie-UMR 5563 CNRS-UPS-IRD) which is conducting research projects in hydro geodynamics in the Amazon basin since 1995, the SO HYBAM also collaborates with local institutions (national agencies and universities) to insure the sustainability of the observation data. Since 2011, the SO HYBAM is a component of the GET (Geosciences Environnement Toulouse) (UMR 5563 CNRS / IRD UR 234 / UPS / CNES), Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées (OMP).
